Dan Dringenberg

Handmade machine building

La Puente, California, USA

Dan Dringenberg is an American tattoo machine builder and tattooer based in La Puente, California, widely recognized as one of the most influential handmade-machine makers in the trade. He is the documented machine-building mentor of Tim Hendricks.

Archive Note

Dringenberg began making tubes and machines out of his father's garage in 1992 and runs the Dringenberg Tattoo Company. He builds handmade coil machines in which every part is custom made and the coils are hand wound, an approach he passed on to the builders he taught, and he cites historic machine builders and tattooers including Paul Rogers, Amund Dietzel, and Percy Waters as influences. He mentored Tim Hendricks in handmade machine building, and the two have collaborated on machines with Dringenberg hand engraving and Hendricks building, which places him among the major influences on a generation of contemporary tattoo machine builders.
