Archive Note

Guy Le Tatooer is French and grew up in New Caledonia, where his father owned a tattoo shop; he is a second-generation tattooer who started in that shop around 1992 at about eighteen. In his early twenties he moved to Australia and worked for a period with the Australian tattooer Paul Braniff, and on returning, unable to work in his father's shop, he opened a seasonal shop near Perpignan in France with friends and built the itinerant working life that has defined his career. He works an ornamental register of traditional folk art, mythical symbolism, waves, flames, and dragons, favoring large-scale pieces and summing up his approach as "Timelessness is the only word"; he covers large areas efficiently with custom high-voltage machines. Documented working nodes include Perpignan, Paris, Los Angeles, and a recurring residency at Into You in London, and he co-founded the New Caledonia brand Loco Mosquito.
