James Yocum started tattooing in 2006 at Black Rat Tattoo in Las Cruces, New Mexico, under a tattooer named Tick, and took early cues from visits to Sanctity and Immaculate Tattoo. He moved to Dallas to work at Saints and Sinners before landing at Great Wave Tattoo in Austin, where he has been a full member for about nine years. He works in the Texas classic Americana the shop is known for, and keeps up a steady output of flash and paintings that end up on shop walls around the country.
