Archive Note

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, DeVries began tattooing in 2003 and found his niche in color realism, photorealistic portraiture, and three-dimensional realism, and he is named alongside figures such as Nikko Hurtado as a defining figure of that register. He is the founder and principal artist of MD Tattoo Studio in Thousand Oaks, reports more than 250 convention awards, and his published client list includes Sylvester Stallone, Travis Barker, Chris Daughtry, Yelawolf, and KJ Apa. He has also built a parallel business in tattoo products and publishing, creating the MD Wipe Outz tattoo-towel line, co-founding the Stencil Stuff stencil product, and working with Memento Publishing.
