Nissaco

Ornamental blackwork

Tsuruyashiki (NISSACO), Osaka, Japan

Nissaco is a Japanese ornamental blackwork tattooer based in Osaka, known internationally for large-scale geometric work that fuses Japanese aesthetics with dense pattern and refined linework.

Archive Note

By his own account he was born in 1980 in Kagawa Prefecture, began tattooing in 2000 at Chopstick Tattoo, and from 2005 narrowed his practice to black work and ornamental, culturally informed design. He works almost entirely in black, building geometric compositions, spirograph-like swirls, and mandala structures that wrap and follow the body, frequently at full-sleeve and bodysuit scale, and is praised for the cleanness of his line. In 2020 he opened a private workspace called Tsuruyashiki, not open to the public, and launched a brand under the NISSACO name. His convention record includes first and second prizes in the Ornamental section at the London Tattoo Convention in 2017 and first and third in 2018, and he has guest-worked in more than fourteen countries. His legal name is not disclosed in reliable public sources.
