Seventh Son Tattoo was founded in 2006 by Luke Stewart with partners Jason Kundell and Erik Rieth, and Stewart, who works almost exclusively in the Japanese irezumi style, became sole owner in 2015. After two relocations within SOMA the shop settled at 765 Clementina Street, where it has operated for more than a decade, running custom work across Japanese, black-and-grey, floral, biomechanical, ornamental, and illustrative registers and serving as a recognized center for Japanese tattooing in San Francisco. Stewart began tattooing at age 20 at the historic San Francisco shop Goldfields, and during the studio's early years he also fought professionally in mixed martial arts for Strikeforce from 2006 to 2010 before concentrating on tattooing. Its roster has included Grime, whose projects moved here after Skull and Sword closed, Shun Nakatsuru, and Henry Lewis, and Matt Howse worked there for a period in the mid-2010s during his San Francisco years.
