Byrne began tattooing in 1997, working in the United Kingdom and as a guest internationally, and was a documented repeat guest at Frith Street Tattoo in Soho, London, during the 2000s, credited with introducing Valerie Vargas to the shop's owner Dante Di Massa in 2007. He relocated to the United States in August 2009 and is co-owner and resident tattooer at Rock of Ages Tattoo on South Lamar in Austin, Texas, in operation since 2005. His work is classic, iconic American traditional drawn from early-to-mid-1900s sailor imagery, with clean heavy lines and recurring motifs of racing horses, cards, dice, skulls, tigers, and cigarette smoke, carried with a punk-rock, outlaw-Americana sensibility.
