Cripwell is from Pembrokeshire, Wales, and moved to the United States in 2002. Secondary sources report that he served a traditional apprenticeship under Theo Mindell at Spider Murphy's Tattoo in San Rafael and began tattooing in 2004, though his own current site does not name a teacher, so this is recorded as reported rather than first-party. He works in a bold, solid traditional style, not neo-traditional, and now tattoos at Flying Panther Tattoo in the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego. His work appears alongside the Spider Murphy's roster, including Matt Howse, in the studio's published flash collection.
