Steinke grew up in Elgin, Illinois, where his graffiti tag Cleen Rock One originated, received his first tattoo at sixteen, and opened his first shop in 1999 before relocating to Las Vegas in 2007 and building a multi-shop presence. He competed on Ink Master in seasons five and seven, finishing as runner-up both times, then coached the winning team on the eleventh season, and later returned to the franchise as a judge on the spin-off Ink Master: Grudge Match alongside fellow former champions. He works primarily in bright, bold neo-traditional and new-school styles, and owns Golden Skull as his flagship plus Chrome Gypsy and Nevada Tattoo Company in Las Vegas. He has also been noted for building cars and motorcycles.
