Arkivnotat

Originally from Ohio, Porter has a fine-art oil-painting background and describes his color work in terms of layered glazing rather than flat color. He drew from childhood and initially aimed at a career in comics before a co-worker steered him toward tattooing, getting his first tattoo at eighteen and starting soon after, which gives him close to three decades of experience. He moved from Ohio to California specifically to work with and learn from Mike DeVries at MD Tattoo Studio, then ran his own Cecil Porter Tattoo in Murrieta, California, since closed, before relocating to Portland and establishing Cecil Porter Studios for custom tattoos and illustration. His work has been featured in major tattoo publications, and he continues to travel for guest spots in the United States and Europe. He is not to be confused with the tattoo historian Shawn Porter.
